Redrift:Redux Release 0.3.0!


Hello again! I have been making a final effort to get this out there, so read carefully:

This is the release of Redrift: Redux. This is a mod for Adrift,  and I've been working on it on and off for 3 years. It aims to take Adrift, and improve its content, visual style, general robustness, and functionality while still maintaining the original appeal, and especially physics, of Adrift. However, it does not build off of Classic Redrift, so Classic and Redux contain fully separate content and design decisions to one another.

To this end, all the UI has been re-designed, many scripts have been massively reworked, and there is a fair bit of new content in the works.

Redrift: Redux will be available either through the browser, or via a download link. Classic Redrift will still be available for download for Windows.

Update Contents

General Gameplay

  • The Dark Realm is no longer a separate region, but is under the main island, specifcally below the new, vast Void Ocean.
  • Removed the Hunger mechanic completely.
  • Buildings now check for line of sight before being placed.
  • Shrunk the player slightly.

Item Additions

  • Quartz and Glass
  • Conveyor Belt T2 (old Conveyor Belt is now Conveyor Belt T1)
  • Optical Sensor
  • Climbing Picks (Stone and Iron tiers)
  • Grappling Hooks (Iron and Copper tiers)
  • Mulberry
  • Solid walls, floors, and doors (purely visual difference to normal versions)
  • Double doors

Item Changes

  • Furnaces require 3 wood per item smelted.
  • Conveyor Belts no longer have variable speed options, their speed is determined by tier.
  • The Auto Miner has been redesigned. It no longer takes a pickaxe, but has a tank design with a front drill that slowly gathers resources.
  • The Auto Sorter can now be switched between "Whitelist" and "Blacklist" mode.

Resource Additions

  • Fallen logs (spawns on the main island)
  • Mulberry trees (spawns on light islands) 
  • Quartz spikes (spawns underneath "Void Crag" islands, slightly below the Void Ocean) 
  • Silicon nodes (spawns underneath the main dark island)

UI Changes

Completely revamped the following:

  • Title UI
  • Settings UI
  • Save UI
  • New Game UI
  • Crafting UI
  • Achievements UI

UI Redesign is inspired by Rugbug Redfern's Remastering [Adrift] video

  • Improved Inventory UI.

Quality of Life

  • New Button Prompt system that is dynamic, and supports having as many button prompts shown as needed.
  • Improved building previews.

Backend

  • Changed underlying systems for Items almost completely.
  • Changed underlying systems for saving almost completely.
  • Countless minor and moderate backend changes to Achievements, Recipes, Resources, and more.

That is all for now. More content (items, locations, creatures (?)) are planned, but not guaranteed. For now, I hope this provides a great experience for old or new Adrift fans!
